GOOD-LAND CHAPTER

Goodland, Kansas

Divider

Good-Land Chapter received its official charter December 2, 1959. The chapter began with sixteen charter members and Mrs. Hazel Reed served as the Organizing Regent. Mrs. Reed was affiliated with the Phebe Dustin Chapter in Phillipsburg, and was asked by the State Regent to form a new chapter in Goodland, Kansas. The chapter is named "Good-Land" because of the excellent area farmlands.

Several of our members helped in a neighboring county to publish their area history book called "Wallace County History: A Story of Grass, Grit and Chips," published in 1979. Sales of the book helped to form the Wallace County Historical Society.

An annual DAR Good Citizen is chosen from the seniors at one of the area high schools. The chapter is proud to select this deserving youth each year. Another annual tradition is to give a Flag of the USA, which has flown over the Capitol, to someone in our area. Some past recipients are Fort Wallace, the Goodland Library, and the Northwest Kansas Regional Hospital.

Chapter meetings are held at 12:30 p.m. on the 2nd Saturday of the month in September, October, November, April, May, and June. Prospective members are welcome to attend. Please contact us for more information about DAR and our chapter, using the link below.
